We've arrived safely in Costa Rica!!!
Our flight from Minneapolis to Atlanta was great but the plane was delayed on the ground in Atlanta for over an hour which meant a late arrival in San Jose.
We breezed through customs and immigration and our translator was at the airport to meet us when we stepped off the plane. Our luggage arrived without any problems and the costume bags, drums and instruments were unharmed!!!
We are staying at the Radisson, Costa Rica which is a 15 minute drive from the airport. The hotel is beautiful and they have given us more rooms than we know what to do with. We couldn't be more thrilled with the accommodations and the treatment we are receiving.
Hans, the festival organizers, arrived at the hotel to greet us and presented us with our schedule for the 10 days. They seem very organized and are working hard at making sure we are comfortable.
We have a fairly easy first day with only one performance at 3:00 PM. Breakfast is delivered at 7:00 AM, lunch arrives at 12:30 PM, and dinner at 7:00 PM. The schedule will keep us busy over the next 10 days but we have 3 days of sight-seeing and everyone is looking forward to the beach. We have a rehearsal at 11:00 AM this morning to re-group after the journey and after the performance at 3:00 PM we will have our evening free to enjoy the hotel and surroundings. There is a fantastic pool and courtyard where the dancers are relaxing and meeting for breakfast.
The dancers and musicians are all doing well and send their love to everyone back home. We have LOTS of fun stories to tell (ALREADY)!!!
We will post photos soon!!!
Hasta Luego

Rehearsing in the courtyard for the performance this afternoon!
There's a Gold's Gym in the hotel which makes
a great rehearsal studio.

It has been a busy 24 hours and we will write more when we have time! We have lots of fun stories to tell! We are all doing well and enjoying our stay in San Jose. This morning some of the group is heading up into the mountains to a town called Santa Maria de Dota for a performance and tour of a coffee plantation. We will be back tomorrow morning. The group staying behind is going to enjoy the pool at the Radisson and some much needed rest!
Everyone sends their love to friends and family back home!!!

We have had a busy few days with the festival underway and not much computer time. Sorry for the lack of photos and updates!
Things are going wonderfully for our group in San Jose and the festival has been a great experience. We have a busy few days ahead starting with a trip to San Pablo de Heredia for the night. We will be staying with local families and the whole group is excited for the adventure. Our last trip to Santa Maria de Dota was a truly wonderful experience. We fortunate to meet really great families from the town who showed us amazing hospitality.
We will return to San Jose on Saturday and will be performing in several locations on Saturday and Sunday. We are finalizing our last few days of sightseeing for the trip and will keep everyone posted with news of our adventures whenever possible!
Day trip to Punta Leona for a day of swimming and beach fun.
Day trip to the Paos Volcano
Performing at the National Theatre in San Jose
